Dr Ethan Nadelmann visted Australia November 2010. Below is some information about Dr Nadelmann, his background and his work in the field of drug law reform.
Dr Ethan Nadelmann in Australia 21 Nov to 3 Dec, 2010, visiting Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra.
In November this year Dr. Ethan Nadelmann, Director of the US Drug Policy Alliance, will be visiting Australia. Ethan Nadelmann is widely regarded as one of the most influential speakers on drug policy reform in the USA and internationally.
Ethan Nadelmann’s credentials in drug policy are outstanding. He received a Ph.D. in Political Science from Harvard and a Masters degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics before becoming an Assistant Professor of Politics and Public Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
Nadelmann began working on drug law reform in 1994 with the philanthropic support of George Soros. He is now the Executive Director of the Drug Policy Alliance, the leading drug policy reform organization in the USA.
Dr. Nadelmann’s extensive writings on drug policy reform have appeared in scholarly journals such as Science, National Review and Foreign Affairs as well as more mainstream publications such as Rolling Stone.
Dr. Nadelmann’s critiques of current drug control policies and his advocacy for alternative approaches have attracted international attention and helped to stimulate the growing international debate over drug policy. Arguing that the “war on drugs” has been ineffective, counter productive and expensive, Dr Nadelmann believes that funding for health and social measures should be raised to the same high level enjoyed by drug law enforcement. He is keen to discuss drug policy with senior law enforcement officials while in Australia.
Dr. Nadelmann will be in Australia from 21 November to 3 December. He will be giving major talks in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra.

ADLRF AGM – November 2009

In October 2009, the ADLRF will be hosting a series of free public lectures and talks by Dr Norm Stamper.
Dr Stamper is coming to Australia in October as a representative of the USA organisation LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition).
Dr Stamper is a proponent of drug law reform and argues that the US “war on drugs” simply has not worked. He believes that the billions of dollars being wasted on the justice system could be better spent on improving health and social interventions to ameliorate drug problems. Dr Stamper is the author of “Breaking Rank: A Top Cop’s Exposé of the Dark Side of American Policing”.
